Switching Islands!
Up so early this morning, 😑. We had prepared well enough last night in order to just get up, dress and get out the door. We walked to our parked car and took off direction petrol station and then the airport . Car safely deposited at the Hertz lot we passed through security and strangely Annemarie managed to avoid a random search!
It was all set up for her, but fortunately they had snagged someone else for a shoe and sock swab.

At the gate they loaded by zone…onto the bus. It was then the usual cattle rush to get on the airplane once the bus stopped beside the aircraft.😅 We were fortunate to make the first bus which meant a bit more time to find seats and stow gear.

We have a 30’ flight to Athens. Shorter this time because we are returning on a bigger jet plane, not the small propeller plane we flew down on. It’s a clear sky so perhaps a photo or two as we cross to Athens?

Rob was wondering about a lounge visit and because we had 2-3 hours to kill we managed to locate and relax. I had a nice bowl of Greek yoghurt with honey drizzled over it. Sort of a brunch and then very soon it was time to fly again.

Well that’s fun. We are sharing the plane to Heraklion with the Olympicos Women’s Football club. They are part of the men’s club which has been quite successful in Europe. They are presently playing in the UEFA Europa league finals which is one step down from the Champions League. The men play in the Greek Super League and I think that the women’s team is in Division A.

We had a short weather delay, but the sky is clear so must be around Crete. It wasn’t too long and then we were off.

After landing we picked up our rental car, this time a Mitsubishi Space Star. I’m not making this up!😅 It has a 5 speed manual with a bit more pep than the Fiat Panda. We bonded with it during a 150 kms drive to Chania where we will base ourselves until Saturday morning. A chance to settle in a little and to get some laundry done. 🧺

We have a small, well-appointed apartment on the 2nd floor with a deck and enclosed parking.

We found it on booking.com and it has a nice 9.8 rating. The owner left us a basket of oranges, yogurt, honey, water, a bottle of olive oil and a nice looking bottle of Greek wine.
This being Sunday many restaurants are shut down. However, we’ve found a Chinese and sushi restaurant (weird, right?) and we are going to walk over and get some takeout for dinner. There might be Netflix on this tv which brings us to a Sunday night at home. Well sort of!

We will sort out a plan for tomorrow and I’ll let you know what we decided when I next post.
Cheers from Crete!
