A Slow Start!
As predicted the rains arrived early this morning. This meant cooler temperatures and we actually put pants on before heading off, not very far, to find breakfast.

The first place we went into, while inside and warmer, wasn’t quite the right fit or the operator very welcoming. The breakfasts seemed heavy and more importantly, while they had lots of coffee, there was a very slim supply of tea.
Back out into the rain we went to try the outdoor place across the square. There we were warmly received. It’s the little things, right? The operator was accommodating and the service was very good. Did I mention that we were the only people there?😏 He told us that he did for sure have Earl Grey tea, and he wasn’t making this up as others do.

The tea even came with a small cookie, my first of this trip. Coffee almost always comes with a cookie, so I was pretty pleased! Annemarie still leads in this category, 6 cookies to 1.😅
Breakfast was good as we sat under the large square umbrellas in the cool morning air. If you have ever camped out it felt much like that. The rain pounding on the tarp over your head while you savoured your hot drink and wondered what you were going to do on such a wet day. Been there, done that many times.

This morning the answer was quite simple. Walk back across the square and into our second floor apartment where I made a second cup of tea. We hung out there reading and blogging while waiting for the forecasted sun to arrive early this afternoon.
Last night we went out for dinner around 6:30. We were finding that 7:30-8 was getting too late to eat a good meal before bed. We changed things up and enjoyed a good pasta dinner…

…before going for a walk through the harbour. Such a different experience at night.

The hawkers were out selling their tours. I sure hope they aren’t operating this morning.

Looking ahead, we leave Kos very early tomorrow morning and fly to Heraklion, Crete via Athens. We will pick up a car there (we wonder if it will be another Panda) and we will drive two hours west and base ourselves in Chania for 6 days while we explore western Crete. We have booked a place there.
We then plan to travel into eastern Crete for a week of exploration. No accommodations booked as yet. The weather looks good in western Crete this coming week, but deteriorates into heavy rain just after we leave. The longer range forecast for eastern Crete looks really good. This might be because it’s away from the high western White Mountains which can create all sorts of bad weather and where all the flooding was a couple of weeks ago. Of course this can all change, but fingers crossed.🤞
We hung out much of the day catching up on world news, learning more about the cameras on my iPhone and doing some other reading. Basically a down day. Sorted out my gear for tomorrow too, but that took less than 5 minutes. Travelling light is so liberating.🙃
Eventually the the sun broke out and like everyone else here we went out for a walk. We had planned to drive across to the eastern side of Kos today, but by the time the sun came out we just wanted to enjoy a walk.

We eventually stopped for a drink so that we could people watch a bit.

Across the square I saw a sign offering beer for a third of what we were being charged. I think it was draft, but still…

As we walked back we discovered a whole new tourist area, and we wondered how we’d missed it.

Off to try an Italian restaurant in our newly discovered area that is just a 3’ walk from where we are staying.
Cheers!
