Day 17: Chania, 26°,🌞

A Planning Day…

Today was a pretty simple day. We of course walked down to our new favourite bakery where we also picked up a nice smoked salmon bun-wich for lunch. I stayed with my Crete yoghurt, sliced banana and of course, drizzled with a little local honey that our hosts left for us.

We spent the morning sort of planning options for the rest of our stay on Crete, specifically eastern Crete. I brought the map (yes, a real map) from our last travel here to use for planning purposes. We booked this trip fairly quickly without much forward research, so the last two weeks were generally pretty undefined. The map helped us to look at the bigger picture and it was useful to have it along. Our phones allowed for a deeper look-see.

We have a bit of a game plan with some options figured out. Changing weather patterns ahead are proving a bit challenging to work around. With rain expected early next week, we just might leave Chania a day early to have a bit more sun while on the go and find a place to hunker down when the system arrives. We will decide tonight if we leave here earlier than planned. Our ultimate decision was to not pre-book anything at all for the next 8 days and to just make decisions on the fly. We checked online and there are good accommodation options available in most places. Late season stuff.🙂

Dinner last night was much lighter. I enjoyed a nice bowl of soup with beautifully crusted Greek bread and a lemonade while Annemarie enjoyed her best souvlaki of the trip and a crisp white wine. It was pretty low key stuff, but very tasty!

We eventually did get out of our apartment and walked towards the city beach.

I wasn’t really wanting a swim, so I left Annemarie there and went for a brisk walk. Not a surprise.😎

I found the working harbour and a few fishing boats!

I continued on into the visitors’ harbour enjoying the simple pleasure of a walk. I think I’m getting the break that I needed, but my body continues to look for ongoing activity. It’s a fine line to maintain.

We have made the decision to move on in the morning. It will cost us a few €, but it makes sense in the bigger picture. We will drive further south east and eventually along the coastline of the Libyan Sea.

And that’s about it for a mostly quiet day. Laundry done and a bit of an idea where we might land tomorrow.

Cheers for now!

Geoff🍻
