Day 18: Koh Lanta, Sun. Hot! 34° (in the shade)

Pool Side!😎🌞🍺

Yup. That’s where I’m sitting. It’s 14:30 and I don’t want to sit in the a/c in our bungalow. I’ve been outside all day, and as you can see from the temperature it’s kind of too hot to do very much else. Those who know me well know that sitting poolside isn’t my thing, but it just feels right today.🙂 It might tomorrow as well!

AM is bobbing in the deep end!

We were up early with the sun to make sure that we managed to fit a walk in during the ‘cool’ of the morning. It was already 27° at 7:00. A nice breakfast followed and I washed a couple of bits of clothing. Most of our stuff was sent out to be washed and hung to dry yesterday. Cost about $2.50/kg and we only have a couple of kilos of clothing with us. At that price it’s really not worth taking the time to hand wash it ourselves. However with most of our clothes out for cleaning I’m down to my bathing suit, a t-shirt and a light pair of training shorts. That’s about all I really need though. Very simple existence here.

Late yesterday afternoon we walked the 50m down to the beach for a swim. Very salty and floating was easy. We changed and walked back down to catch the sunset.

Then the game began as we walked down the beach. Which place to stop in for happy hour amongst all the small bars/restaurants? Late happy hour here, 5-7 pm!

AM got us underway with some sort of cocktail and seemed to be enjoying it. I enjoyed a cold Chang beer with a thick foam holder to keep it cold. 😋

Meanwhile the afterglow was just beautiful. The colour reminded me of the many lovely sunsets I have seen in the eastern Mediterranean.

Dinner was very good and we sat outside at a table on the beach. It reminded us of a similar dinner we enjoyed with my sister Kathy in Greece some 7 years ago. That’s a special memory for both of us.❤️

I ordered steamed squid and a plate of fried rice with chicken, bamboo shoots, and various hot chilies and other veggies. It was rather toasty, but I ate it all! I’m enjoying experimenting with the various dishes. There are so many to choose from. I’ll likely not see most of them at our local Thai restaurant at home, but perhaps after this trip AM will be more excited about going there. 🙂

AM ordered a plate of cashew shrimp and she gave it a thumbs up. Some local kids provided the entertainment by juggling various fire sticks. They were actually pretty good, but they definitely need a manager.

While I’m on the subject of food, lunch yesterday was very tasty as well.

First course.
Second course!

I can only write just so much about this life style.😏 We are here one more full day and then I think I’ll be ready to move on, not to sure about AM? I’m very excited to see more of this country and a bit of Cambodia. I’m really hoping that the air pollution problem in central and northern Thailand has been sorted before we get there. Fingers crossed!🤞

As I mentioned yesterday the Chinese New Year night market in Phuket a couple of days ago was really well done with a huge turnout. Lots of live entertainment and great food stalls. It was the last of four main celebrations in four different cities that we were lucky to participate in. The Year of The Snake has so far been pretty fun for us!

A few photos.

This association was selling off bits of four roasted hogs with money donated to cancer society. We wanted to contribute but we didn’t like the parts being chopped up as we passed. A lot of fat.

We ordered some hot dumplings.
This was a bit odd. A very flexible child we think being made to do this by her father with a money donation bin to fund her education.
Lots of good prep!

Lots of live entertainment.
I’m not completely sure what this is about?

This was moving animation of the side of an old town building. Pretty amazing!

A whole new pig to chop up!
Motor scooter parking on our way out one off the exits. There were thousands of people at this massive open air market.

And that’s about it for today. One more full day here tomorrow in this time warp where every day is pretty much the same as the previous one. Really lovely, particularly given the weather conditions at home which continue to be wintery and cold. Stay warm friends!🥶

Cheers!🍻

  1. Very interesting day. Too much easy living – encouraged by plentiful and easy food stuffs and I fear that you will both be spoiled by normality when you come home!! But it does look beautiful and interesting Time to move along………..

    Enjoy the moments.
