A Day In Howth!
(Written on the go today)
After our exciting day yesterday, we looked to do something a little more tame today in Dublin. Once sorted out after a good breakfast we caught the train out to Howth for a walk and to poke around. AM discovered that we could get a transit day pass for all the metro and buses for just €8, and we picked them up at the Spar grocery store. This will also cover our express bus fair out to the airport which in itself cost five euros. So it’s good value to remember for a future time here. Way to go AM!

Our flight doesn’t go until 6 PM, so we have a number of hours to have a little adventure. We have both visited Dublin a number of times and have walked the city and seen many of the main sites. So something new was in order.

It seems one of the main reasons people come here is to walk the Cliff Trail, which runs about 7 to 8 km around the south end of the island. You set off to walk part of it, but we didn’t have enough time to do the whole trail on this trip.

It looks really nice, but it was covered with people, and when we saw a high school group of about 80 people, we knew we made the right decision to walk back into town. The next time we visit the best time to come out here would be early morning.

We walked back into town and out the long jetty to the lighthouse.

We are presently on the train, heading back into Dublin, where we will pick up our gear at the hotel and walk over to the Custom House to get the express bus to the airport..We will first stop at the airport police station and pick up the passport and then head for a lounge to try and get a late lunch because there won’t be any dinner for us tonight.

We went back to our hostel and picked up our bags and then headed for the express bus. We arrived at the pick up point in front of the Custom House, the support fellow saw our bus passes and said they wouldn’t work on the express bus. Hmmm.🤔 He told us we could catch a bus number 41 to the airport and he showed us where to catch it. We waited and waited, but no bus showed up so we went back to the express bus location and talked to him. He apologized profusely and got us onto the next bus with no charge, a €30 savings! The old wink and a nod. Now on our way to the airport.🤞
At the airport, we went to the airport police and fortunately we were able to recover Annemarie‘s passport. Then onwards to security where Annemarie’s luggage was manually checked, as I was expecting to happen yesterday. It happens every time we fly together, lol!

Now in the airport lounge having something to eat and drink as it will be too late for dinner when we arrive in Oslo. We have had a special time in Ireland. Had to believe that Bryan and I flew here 2 weeks ago. I’m looking forward to having a look see around a few parts of Scandinavia. Lots of different experiences lay ahead. Even our flight is with a different airline, Norwegian Air. Perhaps the pilot and crew will be wearing Viking horns on their heads!😂

Things are looking good for this last leg, so I’ll post this as we taxi to take off.
Next post from Oslo!
