Last night we decided to walk down to the centre of town to find our evening meal. It was a lovely evening, the type of evening we often experience at home during the summer. The air was soft and warm making the walk down very pleasant.

After the finest dinner we have experienced on this travel, we walked the harbour area. We were both a little surprised that there weren’t more lights around the harbour, but perhaps that’s a restriction under the park rules

There is a large naval academy located here, and there were many sailors and officers walking the centre and eating in the restaurants.

First thing this morning I was trying to load funds into my cash card, without success. The card was down to under €30 which wouldn’t cover a simple meal. I had to load a small amount of money onto my Skype account so that I could call the bank to sort out the problem. I called and spoke to three different people (3 phone calls) before I found someone who knew to transfer me to the correct card department. And yes, I’m aware that well trained employees are very difficult to find these days. So I was very polite. 😏
The fellow who finally helped me said that there was an issue with the € part of the card system that had been going on for more than a day. I suggested that they advise the bank so that their call centres would be able to advise clients about the issue, or at the very least that they should email card holders to provide information updates. Anyway, we had to notify our upcoming hotel reservation in Barcelona and changed our credit card online. Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon.
Eventually we got underway and found a nice breakfast spot on our way to the ferry.

We were first in line! It’s a bit of a free for all getting on and off. No one really directs you.

Arriving on the main island of Sardinia it was just under a two hour drive to Castelsardo with no real stopping points along the way, but we did have fun trying to pass a large tour group of supported cyclists on some high winding roads. Lots of traffic was backed up behind them and for some reason they wouldn’t pull over to allow the cars past making for some dangerous situations. We eventually got past and continued on to town. Lucky to find a pull over to take this photo of town. What a beautiful setting for a castle town!

We have walked up to a market, had a simple lunch and checked in to our B&B. We are now passing time waiting for the days heat to subside and then we will go exploring. Our weather has been really nice!
Later:
By 15:00 the heat had subsided somewhat and we decided to walk up to the the top of the castle and reward ourselves with a cool drink.🙂 A very nice climb with good views to the harbour west of town.

This tower was originally built as a lighthouse then a church spire and finally ended up as a bell tower.

The lower streets were quiet, but the upper streets in the castle were a bit livelier.

Having congratulated ourselves for NOT booking a room in the old town we figured that a walk to the harbour would be a good idea. Annemarie had looked at accommodations in the castle area, but read many complaints. There’s nowhere to park and then one must haul their gear in which honestly shouldn’t surprise anyone. These places were definitely not built for cars! We have a nice room in a great small centrally located place. Parking, breakfast and an easy escape in the morning!

The harbour was ok, but the old watch tower at the entrance was better.

Tomorrow we have one day left with the Bear. We will drop him off at Alghero airport and then find our way back into town for a our last couple of days on Sardinia. We are still sorting out our route and could swing down along the west coast to see a place Annemarie is keen on. I guess we will decide in the morning.
Time for a shower then a nice looking Italian restaurant for dinner!
Ciao!
