After a long brilliant day yesterday we decided to stay closer to home today. Being that it was Sunday. Most things on Corsica are closed. About the only place one can guarantee some places are open is in the touristic centers. So after a very nice leisurely breakfast we jumped in our Peugeot 208 and headed downhill to the pretty seaside town of L’lle-Rousse in search of a walk, a beach and lunch. It was already 26° when we set off at 10:00!

Given the heat and the beckoning clear Mediterranean water we didn’t walk as far as we might have, but we had a good wander through the town and it’s harbour.

A nice view of the lighthouse.

We stopped at the outdoor market to see what was available for tasting. Always a good lunch experience that Annemarie’s Uncle Joop taught me in Holland some 42 years ago. He showed me how tasting at various food stalls (tasting is a part of life in the EU) that you might eventually feel like you’ve had a very nice lunch! I know that Joop would be very pleased that I’m still practicing his lunching technique all these years later. A lovely person🙏
This very welcoming gentleman (photo below) raises bees and makes the most amazing honey! Erin, you would have loved it. He seemed to speak endless languages, and when he found out we were from Canada he encouraged us to sample each type of honey. There were so many, but I thought the best were made from flowering chestnut trees, a flowering strawberry type vine and spring flowers.
Understanding that we couldn’t take any home because of carry on restrictions (or I would happily have purchased several to add to my collection) he pulled out a jar from behind his counter that he said was a very rare and unusual honey. We tasted. Wow! To die for!Wonderful person and one of those memorable moments that keeps me travelling.

Next up was a lengthy tasting at this table. Note all the samples of cured meats and cheeses😊 There were quite a few of us tasting and comparing notes. We all agreed that while each sample was wonderful, the very best was the long narrow sausage in the foreground. We later went back to buy a little to munch on at some future point.😋

Next stop…

By noon it was 33°. No better place to cool down!

A nice walking sandbar then deeper refreshing water where we could stand with others neck deep with fish around our toes.

After an hour we decided that our skin had been beaten up enough by the sun, so we departed in search of the rest of our lunch.

Look away if you don’t want to see the next photo.

Then back to the hotel where we shared a refreshment and a snack while giving a bit of thought to our next few days.

We are here again all day tomorrow and have a plan to car tour in the morning as well as visit the town of Calvi. That’s pretty much as far as our planning has been sorted out.🙂 We then will have 3 days to find our way to the south tip of Corsica. I’m sure there will be some adventures to find.
Annemarie continues to work with the front desk staff here and the hotel owner in Macinaggio to devise a way to get her walking poles to us. They were inadvertently left behind yesterday. It will be interesting to see if they make it to back to her before we depart Holland in 4 weeks.🤞
Big day yesterday! First day of soccer!

Congratulations to my parents Ken and Glenn who are celebrating their 74 wedding anniversary today! we are toasting you as we enjoy our meal.

Cheers!
Geoff
