After a very busy summer with loads of visitors, one of our favourite travel seasons has arrived! In Europe as is the case here, the arrival of September means that the kids are back in school and accordingly their parents have returned to work. This usually means that the places we might like to travel and experience are a bit quieter, and from our perspective more enjoyable. Annemarie thankfully appears to be fully recovered from her health challenges painfully endured last winter, and this will be her first international travel in a year. I’m pretty sure that she’s a bit excited!
Our fall travel will begin this Saturday with a series of flights via Montreal and Paris across 9 time zones 🫤 which will eventually depositing us in the small city of Ajaccio on the west coast of Corsica. Yes, a return to France. We will wander Corsica for almost two weeks before taking a ferry south to the neighbouring island of Sardinia for a 9 day look see. My third visit to bella Italia in the past 13 months! We expect very different experiences on each of these two island states compared with their mainland overlords. As it’s somewhat difficult to transit to and from these islands, at least considering where we want to go, we will fly onwards to Barcelona for 3 days. I’m pretty excited about a return to Spain. For so many reasons one of my favourite European destinations! From there we will be off to Holland to take care of some family stuff and also visit with family and friends. Really looking forward to that!
In all we will be gone for about 5 weeks. Aside from our flights and a couple of car rentals on the islands we haven’t pre-booked very much. We’ve been so busy this year that we kind of cobbled this trip together in bits and pieces over the past 3-5 months. It will be very interesting to see how it comes together! For the most part we will find places to stay as we go. We have thoughts about some day hiking and have identified several possibilities. However, we’ve done very little research, though I will admit to having watched a few YouTube videos to get a sense of things.
We are excited about this adventure and again experiencing places new to us. As usual we have packed very lightly with my one luxury being a snorkel mask. We understand that the Med in this area has amazingly clear turquoise water and fabulous beaches! And we are in absolutely no hurry.
I plan to blog on and off as we travel in an effort to learn more about this new blogging app. So far I haven’t shared this blog very widely, but if you feel like sharing it I’m fine with that. I’ll be sharing it more widely once I figure out the 2024 walking plan. So a couple of days to prepare, meet up in Vancouver and head off!
PS. Ok, so there’s a small problem. I posted this today on September 6th, but it says August 30th. I’ve figured out why this happened, but I’ve no idea how to correct it. For clarity, we depart September 9th. A new lesson learned!😂
